Description

PRODUCT

The MICRON DataMet E-Force Caliper is a stainless-steel computerized caliper with a high-resolution SWISS-made reading system and a 2.0″ high-resolution color touchscreen.

Three measuring ranges are available:

  • 0–150 mm / 0–6″ — accuracy ±5 μm*
  • 0–200 mm / 0–8″ — accuracy ±8 μm*
  • 0–300 mm / 0–12″ — accuracy ±10 μm*

The reading system provides 0.0005 mm / 0.5 μm resolution, with selectable indication of 0.0005 / 0.001 / 0.01 / 0.1 mm.

An integrated E-Force control module provides selectable measuring force from 1 to 20 N, together with force indication, color force-status indication and AUTO-Force mode. This allows the operator to monitor and control the contact force applied during measurement rather than relying only on manual feel.

The caliper uses stainless-steel construction with hand-finished measuring surfaces specified at Ra < 0.32 μm. Jaw dimensions are 40/16 mm, 50/17 mm and 60/20 mm, depending on measuring range.

*Specified accuracy applies to the external jaws. Internal-jaw and depth measurement are specified according to ISO 13385-1.

Power is supplied by a 500 mAh rechargeable Li-Pol battery, with a USB-C socket for charging and data transfer.

COMPUTERIZED MICS / DataMet FUNCTIONS

The computerized DataMet MICS system integrates measurement indication, control, analysis, storage and data-management functions directly into the caliper.

Confirmed functions include:

CONNECTIVITY & DATA

The caliper supports both Wireless and USB data transfer.

Built-in Wireless modes include:

  • Wireless transfer to the MICROTECH MDS app
  • Wireless HID
  • Wireless HID + MAC, allowing measurement values to be transferred as keyboard input to compatible applications

USB modes include:

  • USB HID
  • USB HID + MAC

The MDS application is specified for Windows, Android, iOS and macOS.

The USB-C connection is used for both data transfer and battery charging.

The DataMet system also provides HUB-based connection possibilities for 2D and probe functions.

Optional DataMet accessories shown for the system include the DataMet Button, DataMet Footswitch, MDS Display Unit and MDS Software/interface hardware. These are optional and are not part of the standard instrument specification.

WHAT PROBLEM DOES IT SOLVE?

A conventional digital caliper provides a dimensional value but normally leaves tolerance evaluation, measurement storage and subsequent data processing to the operator or to separate equipment.

The MICRON DataMet E-Force Caliper combines these functions in one measuring system.

Its 1–20 N E-Force module helps control the force applied during contact measurement and provides visible force feedback. This reduces dependence on operator feel when a defined or repeatable measuring force is important.

The 0.5 μm reading-system resolution provides substantially finer indication than a conventional 0.01 mm digital caliper, while selectable resolution allows the displayed precision to be adapted to the measurement task.

Integrated Go/NoGo, graphical, analog-scale, Max/Min, formula, memory and statistics functions allow measurements to be evaluated directly on the instrument. Wireless and USB interfaces then allow the resulting data to be transferred without separate manual transcription.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The workpiece is measured using the caliper’s external jaws, internal jaws or depth measuring function.

The operator positions the measuring surfaces on the required feature and closes the caliper until the required contact is established. The E-Force module monitors the applied force over the selectable 1–20 N range, displaying force status and supporting AUTO-Force operation.

The electronic reading system detects jaw displacement with 0.0005 mm resolution, and the result is displayed on the 2.0″ color touchscreen.

The operator can then use the DataMet MICS functions to evaluate the measurement using graphical or analog indication, tolerance limits, Max/Min functions, formulas or statistics. Measurements can be stored internally and subsequently transferred through Wireless or USB interfaces.

WHERE IS IT USED?

The caliper is intended for precision dimensional measurement with external jaws, internal jaws and depth measurement, particularly when the measurement process also requires controlled measuring force, high-resolution indication, tolerance evaluation, measurement storage or digital transfer of results.

Its integrated DataMet functions make it suitable for measurement workflows where the dimensional result must be evaluated, recorded and transferred directly from the measuring instrument.

CONFIGURATION & CUSTOMIZATION

Three standard measuring-range configurations are listed:

  • 0–150 mm / 0–6″ — 40/16 mm jaws, ±5 μm external-jaw accuracy
  • 0–200 mm / 0–8″ — 50/17 mm jaws, ±8 μm external-jaw accuracy
  • 0–300 mm / 0–12″ — 60/20 mm jaws, ±10 μm external-jaw accuracy

All listed versions provide 0.0005 mm resolution and the 1–20 N E-Force system.

The standard delivery information specifies a USB data/charging cable, calibration protocol and free versions of the MDS app.

Optional system components include the DataMet Button, DataMet Footswitch, MDS Display Unit and MDS interface/software hardware.

MICROTECH calipers pass metrological control in accredited ISO 17025:2019 metrological lab.
