The SwissMet IP67 LONG JAW digital caliper is a stainless-steel digital caliper for external and internal dimensional measurement over ranges up to 600 mm. Its extended 100 or 150 mm jaws reach measuring surfaces positioned farther from the edge of a workpiece, where conventional short caliper jaws cannot obtain correct contact. Swiss electronics provide 0.01 mm resolution, a large 12 mm-digit display, PRESET and IP67 protection for measurements requiring increased reach without changing to a larger specialized measuring system.

Description

PRODUCT

The SwissMet IP67 LONG JAW digital caliper combines extended measuring jaws with a stainless-steel caliper body and waterproof Swiss electronics.

Available measuring configurations include:

  • 0–300 mm / 0–12″ — 100 mm jaws, ±20 μm accuracy
  • 0–400 mm / 0–16″ — 100 mm jaws, ±30 μm accuracy
  • 0–500 mm / 0–20″ — 100 mm jaws, ±30 μm accuracy
  • 0–500 mm / 0–20″ — 150 mm jaws, ±30 μm accuracy
  • 0–600 mm / 0–24″ — 100 mm jaws, ±30 μm accuracy

All versions provide 0.01 mm resolution. The extended jaws place the measuring contacts farther from the caliper beam, allowing external and internal features located deeper on the workpiece to be reached. Internal measurements are intended for dimensions above 10 mm.

The Swiss electronic system uses a large display with 12 mm digits and provides PRESET, mm/inch switching, HOLD and automatic ON/OFF functions. Maximum slider speed is 2.5 m/s.

The stainless-steel measuring surfaces are hand finished to Ra <0.32 μm. Electronic components are protected to IP67 according to IEC 60529. Power is supplied by a CR2032 3 V battery.

A calibration certificate according to ISO 17025 / ILAC MRA is included.

WHERE IS IT USED AND WHAT TASKS DOES IT SOLVE?

The LONG JAW configuration is intended for dimensional measurements where the required contact surfaces are located too far from the workpiece edge for a conventional caliper.

  • Stepped workpiece → external width or diameter behind a shoulder → standard jaws cannot reach past surrounding geometry → long jaws position the measuring faces deeper on the part.
  • Recessed external feature → distance between opposite surfaces inside a recessed area → the caliper beam limits the reach of short jaws → 100 or 150 mm jaws extend the contact point away from the beam.
  • Large component with a deep measuring position → external dimension away from the nearest edge → conventional caliper jaw depth is insufficient → the extended jaw geometry provides additional measuring depth.
  • Deep internal opening above 10 mm → internal dimension farther from the opening edge → short internal contacts cannot reach the required section → long jaws allow the measurement position to be reached deeper inside the feature.
  • Repeated measurements of parts with the same nominal dimension → repeated manual comparison with the target value → PRESET allows a reference value to be entered directly into the instrument.

The 150 mm jaw version in the 0–500 mm range is selected when substantially greater measuring depth is required than with the standard 100 mm long-jaw configuration.

WHAT PROBLEM DOES IT SOLVE?

A conventional caliper is limited not only by its measuring range but also by jaw reach. A dimension can fall within the caliper’s nominal range while still being impossible to measure because shoulders, recesses or the distance from the workpiece edge prevent the measuring faces from reaching the required surfaces.

The LONG JAW design separates measuring capacity from measuring depth: ranges up to 600 mm cover the dimension itself, while the extended jaws provide access to the location where that dimension must be taken.

This is particularly important when measurement must be made on a specific section of a stepped or recessed part rather than directly at its outer edge.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

For external measurement, the slider is moved until the long measuring jaws contact the two opposing surfaces at the required depth on the workpiece. The extended jaw geometry allows these contact surfaces to be positioned farther from the caliper beam than with conventional jaws.

For internal dimensions above 10 mm, the internal measuring contacts are positioned against the opposing surfaces of the opening at the required measurement location.

The electronic measuring system converts slider displacement into a digital reading with 0.01 mm resolution and displays the result on the large LCD. HOLD can retain a displayed value, while PRESET allows a reference value to be entered for the measurement task.

CONNECTIVITY & DATA

The standard instrument operates as a digital caliper without wireless communication.

An S_connect data-output is available for transferring measurement results to an external system. Connection through USB requires the optional S_connect USB cable.

CONFIGURATION & CUSTOMIZATION

Standard configurations: measuring ranges from 0–300 to 0–600 mm with 100 mm long jaws.

Extended-reach configuration: the 0–500 mm model with 150 mm jaws provides greater measuring depth for features located farther from the accessible workpiece edge.

Optional interface accessory: S_connect USB cable.
