The DataMet micrometer linear stage platform — 2D is a computerized precision stage for measuring and controlling displacement in two perpendicular linear directions. Two measuring axes provide 0–25 mm movement with 0.0001 mm resolution and ±2 µm accuracy, while the DataMet MICS system synchronizes their readings and provides dedicated 2D measurement and graphical functions. PRODUCT

The 2D DataMet micrometer linear stage platform combines a 120 × 120 mm movable table with two perpendicular micrometer measuring axes.

Each axis provides a 0–25 mm moving range, enabling the platform position to be measured in two coordinates. The measuring system provides 0.0001 mm resolution and ±2 µm accuracy, allowing very small changes in position to be evaluated independently and synchronously along both directions.

The platform supports loads up to 21 kg, allowing components, fixtures and measurement setups to remain mounted during positioning and measurement. The instrument has IP65 protection and a CNC-machined solid aluminium housing.

Compared with the 1D version, the 2D platform adds a second measuring direction and synchronized coordinate processing. This eliminates the need to reposition a single-axis stage when displacement must be evaluated in two directions.

CONNECTIVITY & DATA

The 2D platform supports four data-transfer modes:

  • Wireless to MDS app for Windows, Android, iOS and macOS
  • Wireless HID
  • Wireless HID + MAC
  • USB HID

This allows synchronized measurement data from the two axes to be transferred directly for recording and further processing.

MODBUS RTU is optional, using an RS-485 four-wire interface with 5–24 V, GND, A and B connections for industrial integration.

WHERE IS IT USED AND WHAT TASKS DOES IT SOLVE?

The 2D platform is intended for measurement and positioning tasks where movement in two linear directions must be controlled from the same setup.

  • Mounted component → relative position in two coordinates → movement must be evaluated independently in both directions → two perpendicular measuring axes provide simultaneous 2D displacement measurement.
  • Fixture or measurement setup → fine planar adjustment → small changes on one axis can affect the final position → 0.0001 mm resolution provides precise coordinate adjustment.
  • Repeated two-axis positioning → both coordinates must be recorded at each position → synchronization and 2D mode combine the two readings within one computerized measuring system.
  • Position sequence → movement must be visualized rather than recorded as isolated values → 2D Graph provides graphical representation of the two-axis measurement.
  • Repeated inspection or adjustment → coordinate values must be stored or transferred → 2000-value memory together with Wireless and USB transfer reduces manual recording.

The 2D version is therefore preferable to the 1D platform when the required position cannot be described by a single linear displacement.

WHAT PROBLEM DOES IT SOLVE?

A single-axis stage can accurately measure movement in one direction, but planar positioning requires two coordinates. Performing this task with separate measuring devices makes it necessary to read, synchronize and record two independent values.

The 2D DataMet platform integrates both measuring directions into one system:

two-axis stage movement → synchronized coordinate measurement → 2D visualization and evaluation → memory or digital data transfer.

This makes it possible to evaluate changes in both directions without moving the workpiece between separate single-axis measurement setups.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The component or fixture is placed on the 120 × 120 mm platform. Two micrometer measuring systems are arranged in perpendicular directions and measure platform displacement along the two axes.

The operator moves the platform to the required position within the 0–25 mm range of each axis. The two measurements are processed by the DataMet MICS system and can be synchronized into 2D mode.

Individual axis values can be displayed numerically or graphically, while 2D Graph provides combined visualization of the two-axis position. PRESET can establish reference coordinates, and Go/NoGo, MAX/MIN, Formula, Timer and correction functions can be used during measurement.

Results can be stored in memory or transferred through Wireless or USB communication.
