The MICRON SwissMet IP67 Bi-FORCE caliper external knife-edge jaws is a precision digital caliper for external and internal dimensional measurement over ranges up to 600 mm. Long jaws and narrow external knife-edge measuring geometry provide access to recessed, stepped and restricted external features, while upper measuring tips support internal measurements above 10 mm. The mechanical Bi-FORCE system applies 8 N for external and 4 N for internal measurements, providing defined measuring force for both measurement

Description

PRODUCT

The caliper is available in three measuring ranges:

  • 0–300 mm / 0–12″ — ±12 μm accuracy, 60/40 mm jaws
  • 0–500 mm / 0–20″ — ±16 μm accuracy, 100/30 mm jaws
  • 0–600 mm / 0–24″ — ±20 μm accuracy, 100/30 mm jaws

All versions provide 0.001 mm resolution and use a 17 × 5 mm bar section.

The extended jaws position the measuring contacts farther from the caliper beam, allowing dimensions located deeper on a workpiece to be reached. The external jaws use a knife-edge geometry, creating a narrow contact profile where adjacent shoulders, steps or surrounding geometry prevent conventional broad jaws from contacting the required measuring surfaces correctly.

The upper jaws incorporate measuring tips for internal measurements above 10 mm.

A mechanical Bi-FORCE control module provides two measuring forces according to measurement direction: 8 N for external measurement and 4 N for internal measurement. This allows the same caliper to apply a defined force while measuring both outside and inside dimensions.

MICRON Swiss electronics provide a 12 mm digit display, PRESET, mm/inch switching, HOLD and automatic ON/OFF. Maximum slider speed is 2.5 m/s.

The stainless-steel measuring surfaces are hand finished to Ra <0.32 μm. The electronic system is protected to IP67and powered by a CR2032 3 V battery.

CONNECTIVITY & DATA

The standard version provides S_connect data output for transferring measurement results to an external system.

An S_connect USB data cable is optional and is not part of the standard configuration.

WHERE IS IT USED AND WHAT TASKS DOES IT SOLVE?

  • Recessed external dimensions — when the required measuring surfaces are positioned away from the edge of the workpiece, the long jaws reach farther from the caliper beam and place the contacts directly on the target surfaces.
  • External dimensions beside shoulders or steps — broad conventional jaws can interfere with neighbouring geometry; the external knife-edge jaws provide a narrower contact profile for reaching the required feature.
  • Dimensions inside restricted external geometry — where surrounding surfaces limit jaw access, the combination of extended reach and knife-edge contacts allows the measuring faces to enter the available space.
  • Internal dimensions above 10 mm — upper jaws with measuring tips contact the internal surfaces while the Bi-FORCE mechanism applies the dedicated 4 N internal measuring force.
  • Repeated external measurements requiring controlled force — the mechanical Bi-FORCE module applies 8 N externally, avoiding dependence on an undefined manually applied slider force.

WHAT PROBLEM DOES IT SOLVE?

Conventional calipers can become difficult to use when the measured surface is positioned deep inside the workpiece geometry or close to a shoulder, step or adjacent feature. Standard broad jaws may contact the surrounding geometry before reaching the actual measuring point.

The long knife-edge external jaws combine additional reach with a narrow contact geometry, allowing the caliper to access these restricted measuring locations.

A second problem is measuring force. With a conventional freely operated caliper, contact force depends directly on how the operator moves the slider. The Bi-FORCE control module provides defined forces of 8 N externally and 4 N internally, giving each measurement direction its own controlled mechanical force.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

For an external measurement, the workpiece is positioned between the external knife-edge jaws and the slider is moved until the measuring contacts engage the required surfaces. The Bi-FORCE mechanism controls the external contact at 8 N, and the measured dimension is shown on the digital display.

For an internal measurement above 10 mm, the upper measuring tips are positioned against the internal surfaces. The Bi-FORCE mechanism operates in the opposite direction with a 4 N internal measuring force.

Results can be read directly from the 12 mm digit display, retained with HOLD, referenced using PRESET, or transferred through the S_connect interface.

CONFIGURATION

Three standard measuring-range configurations are available:

  • 0–300 mm — 60/40 mm jaws, ±12 μm accuracy
  • 0–500 mm — 100/30 mm jaws, ±16 μm accuracy
  • 0–600 mm — 100/30 mm jaws, ±20 μm accuracy

All configurations use the same 0.001 mm resolution, 8 N / 4 N Bi-FORCE system, IP67 electronics and S_connect data output.

Optional: S_connect USB data cable.

A calibration certificate according to ISO 17025 / ILAC MRA is included.
