The WIRELESS MICRON SwissMet IP67 Bi-FORCE caliper external knife-edge jaws is a precision digital caliper for external and internal dimensional measurement over ranges up to 600 mm. Long jaws and narrow external knife-edge measuring geometry provide access to recessed, stepped and restricted external features, while upper measuring tips support internal measurements above 10 mm. Mechanical Bi-FORCE applies 8 N externally and 4 N internally, while multimode Wireless enables direct measurement-data transfer without a data cable.

Description
PRODUCT
Three measuring ranges are available:
- 0–300 mm / 0–12″ — ±12 μm accuracy, 60/40 mm jaws
- 0–500 mm / 0–20″ — ±16 μm accuracy, 100/30 mm jaws
- 0–600 mm / 0–24″ — ±20 μm accuracy, 100/30 mm jaws
All versions provide 0.001 mm resolution and use a 17 × 5 mm bar section.
The extended jaws position the measuring contacts farther from the caliper beam, allowing dimensions located deeper on a workpiece to be reached. The external jaws use a knife-edge geometry, providing a narrow contact profile where adjacent shoulders, steps or surrounding geometry would obstruct conventional broad measuring faces.
The upper jaws incorporate measuring tips for internal dimensions above 10 mm.
A mechanical Bi-FORCE control module provides two measuring forces according to measurement direction: 8 N for external measurement and 4 N for internal measurement. This gives the operator defined measuring force for both external and internal measurements with the same instrument.
The Swiss electronic measuring system provides 0.001 mm resolution, a large display with 12 mm digits, PRESET, mm/inch switching and automatic ON/OFF. Maximum slider speed is 2.5 m/s.
The stainless-steel measuring surfaces are hand finished to Ra <0.32 μm, and the electronics are protected to IP67 according to IEC 60529.
A built-in rechargeable Li-Pol battery supplies the instrument and uses a magnetic charging system.
CONNECTIVITY & DATA
The caliper uses MULTIMODE WIRELESS data transfer with two operating modes:
- Wireless MDS — transfers measurement data to the MDS app for Windows, Android, iOS and macOS.
- Wireless HID — transfers measurement values directly to an operating system or application using HID mode.
Wireless communication removes the need for an S_connect data cable during normal data transfer and is particularly useful when measurements must be recorded repeatedly while the caliper is moved between workpieces or measuring positions.
Free versions of the MDS app are included in the delivery set.
WHERE IS IT USED AND WHAT TASKS DOES IT SOLVE?
- Stepped external dimensions → measurement close to a shoulder → conventional broad jaws can interfere with adjacent geometry → external knife-edge jaws provide a narrower contact area at the required measuring surfaces.
- Recessed external dimensions → feature located deeper from the workpiece edge → standard short jaws cannot reach the measuring position → 60/40 mm or 100/30 mm long-jaw configurations extend the measurement point away from the beam.
- Restricted external features → limited clearance around the measuring surfaces → wide contact faces cannot enter the available space → knife-edge jaw geometry improves access.
- Internal dimensions above 10 mm → internal measuring surfaces must be contacted from inside the feature → upper jaws with measuring tips provide the required internal contact geometry.
- Repeated inspection with digital result collection → manual transcription adds an additional handling step → Wireless MDS or HID transfers measurements directly to a connected device or application.
WHAT PROBLEM DOES IT SOLVE?
Conventional calipers with short, broad jaws can be unsuitable when the required external dimension is positioned behind a shoulder, inside a recessed area or between closely spaced surrounding features. Their measuring faces can contact adjacent geometry before reaching the actual measurement surfaces.
The combination of long jaws and external knife-edge contacts allows the measuring points to reach farther into the workpiece while reducing interference from nearby geometry.
The Bi-FORCE system also defines the applied force according to measurement direction: 8 N externally and 4 N internally. This replaces uncontrolled hand-applied measuring pressure with a defined mechanical force during measurement.
For inspection workflows requiring electronic result collection, the Wireless version eliminates the need to connect an S_connect data cable to the caliper during measurement.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
For an external measurement, the workpiece feature is positioned between the external knife-edge jaws. The slider is moved until the measuring surfaces contact the required points, and the mechanical Bi-FORCE module applies the 8 N external measuring force. The measured value is shown on the digital display.
For an internal measurement above 10 mm, the upper measuring tips are positioned against the internal surfaces and expanded until contact is established. In this direction, the Bi-FORCE module provides 4 N internal measuring force.
The result can then be read directly from the 12 mm-digit display or transferred wirelessly through MDS or HIDmode.
