The MICRON SwissMet IP67 Bi-FORCE LONG JAW digital caliper is a precision stainless-steel caliper for external and internal dimensional measurement over ranges up to 600 mm. Extended 100 or 150 mm jaws reach measuring surfaces positioned farther from the workpiece edge, while the patented Bi-FORCE control module applies 8 N for external measurements and 4 N for internal measurements. With 0.001 mm resolution, IP67 protection and Swiss electronics, this version combines increased measuring reach with controlled measuring force.

Description

PRODUCT

The MICRON SwissMet IP67 Bi-FORCE LONG JAW digital caliper combines extended measuring jaws, micron-resolution Swiss electronics and controlled bidirectional measuring force.

Available configurations are:

  • 0–300 mm / 0–12″ — 100 mm jaws, ±10 μm accuracy
  • 0–400 mm / 0–16″ — 100 mm jaws, ±12 μm accuracy
  • 0–500 mm / 0–20″ — 100 mm jaws, ±15 μm accuracy
  • 0–500 mm / 0–20″ — 150 mm jaws, ±20 μm accuracy
  • 0–600 mm / 0–24″ — 100 mm jaws, ±20 μm accuracy

All versions provide 0.001 mm resolution and use a 17 × 5 mm caliper bar.

The long jaws place the measuring contacts farther from the beam, allowing external and internal features located deeper on a workpiece to be reached without interference from the caliper body. The upper jaws are designed for internal dimensions above 10 mm.

The Bi-FORCE control module provides two measuring-force levels according to measurement direction: 8 N for external measurements and 4 N for internal measurements. This gives the operator a defined mechanical measuring condition instead of relying only on manually applied slider pressure.

The Swiss electronic system features a large display with 12 mm digits, PRESET, mm/inch switching, HOLD and automatic ON/OFF. Maximum slider speed is 2.5 m/s.

The stainless-steel measuring surfaces are hand finished to Ra <0.32 μm. Electronics are protected to IP67, and the caliper is powered by a CR2032 3 V battery.

WHERE IS IT USED AND WHAT TASKS DOES IT SOLVE?

The LONG JAW version is designed for dimensional features that cannot be reached correctly with conventional short caliper jaws.

  • Wide workpiece → external width or thickness located away from the edge → standard jaws cannot reach the required measuring section → 100 or 150 mm long jaws place the measuring faces deeper on the part.
  • Recessed external feature → dimension positioned behind an edge or surrounding geometry → the caliper beam can interfere before normal jaws reach the surface → extended jaws increase the accessible measuring depth.
  • Deep internal opening → internal dimension above 10 mm located farther from the entrance → conventional upper jaws have insufficient reach → extended upper jaws contact the required internal surfaces.
  • Large component → dimensions distributed across a workpiece up to 600 mm → a short-range caliper cannot cover the required size → available ranges extend to 600 mm while retaining 0.001 mm resolution.
  • Repeated external and internal inspection → operator must reverse between closing and opening measurement directions → Bi-FORCE provides 8 N externally and 4 N internally for defined force in both measuring directions.

WHAT PROBLEM DOES IT SOLVE?

A conventional caliper can measure only where its jaws can physically reach. When the required surfaces are positioned deeper from the workpiece edge, the beam or slider can contact surrounding geometry before the measuring faces reach the intended section.

The extended jaws solve this access problem by moving the measuring contact farther from the caliper beam. The 150 mm jaw configuration provides additional reach where the standard 100 mm long-jaw version is still insufficient.

The instrument also addresses variation in manually applied measuring pressure. Its Bi-FORCE system establishes separate 8 N external and 4 N internal forces, creating defined force conditions for both closing and opening measurements.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

For an external measurement, the required section of the workpiece is positioned between the long lower jaws. The slider is closed until the measuring faces contact the opposing surfaces, with the Bi-FORCE module providing an 8 N external measuring force.

For an internal measurement above 10 mm, the upper jaws are positioned against the opposing internal surfaces and opened until contact is established. In this direction, the Bi-FORCE system operates at 4 N.

The displacement of the slider is converted by the Swiss electronic measuring system into a digital result with 0.001 mm resolution and shown on the large 12 mm-digit display. PRESET can be used when a predefined reference value is required, while HOLD retains a reading on the display.

CONNECTIVITY & DATA

The standard caliper operates as a standalone digital measuring instrument.

An S_connect data-output modification is available for transferring measurement results. Connection through S_connect requires the optional S_connect USB cable.

CONFIGURATION & OPTIONS

Standard configurations

  • 0–300 mm, 100 mm jaws, ±10 μm
  • 0–400 mm, 100 mm jaws, ±12 μm
  • 0–500 mm, 100 mm jaws, ±15 μm
  • 0–500 mm, 150 mm jaws, ±20 μm
  • 0–600 mm, 100 mm jaws, ±20 μm

The 150 mm jaw version is selected when greater measuring depth is more important than the shorter 100 mm jaw geometry.

Optional

  • S_connect USB cable

A calibration certificate is included with the instrument.
