Description

PRODUCT

The MICRON SwissMet IP67 Bi-FORCE Caliper is a stainless-steel digital caliper designed for dimensional measurements where both fine indication and defined contact force are required.

Three measuring ranges are available:

  • 0–150 mm / 0–6″ — ±5 μm accuracy*, 40/16 mm jaws
  • 0–200 mm / 0–8″ — ±8 μm accuracy*, 50/17 mm jaws
  • 0–300 mm / 0–12″ — ±10 μm accuracy*, 60/20 mm jaws

All versions provide 0.001 mm resolution.

The integrated mechanical Bi-FORCE control module provides two defined force levels according to the measurement direction: 8 N for external measurements and 4 N for internal measurements. This allows the measuring force to be controlled mechanically instead of depending only on operator feel.

The standard caliper has hand-finished stainless-steel measuring surfaces with Ra < 0.32 μm. As an optional modification, the instrument can be supplied with external ceramic-tipped jaws, specified as non-magnetic, non-conductive and wear-resistant.

SwissMet electronics provide PRESET, mm/inch conversion, HOLD and Auto ON/OFF functions. The display uses 12 mm digits, with a refresh rate above 10 readings/s, and the slider supports speeds up to 2.5 m/s.

The instrument has IP67 protection according to IEC 60529 and uses a 3 V CR2032 battery. A calibration certificate according to ISO 17025 / ILAC MRA is included.

CONNECTIVITY & DATA

The caliper incorporates S_connect data output for transferring measurement results.

A SwissMet data cable / USB cable is optional and is not part of the standard instrument specification.

WHAT PROBLEM DOES IT SOLVE?

A conventional digital caliper can provide a dimensional reading, but the contact force applied by the operator may vary between measurements.

The Bi-FORCE version adds a defined mechanical force system: 8 N when measuring external dimensions and 4 N when measuring internal dimensions. This gives the operator a controlled contact condition when repeatable measuring force is important.

Its 0.001 mm resolution also provides finer indication than a conventional 0.01 mm caliper, while IP67 protection supports use where resistance to environmental exposure is required.

For applications requiring a different external contact material, the optional ceramic-tipped external jaws provide a non-magnetic and non-conductive measuring configuration without changing the basic Bi-FORCE measuring system.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

For an external measurement, the workpiece is positioned between the external jaws and the slider is moved until contact is established. The Bi-FORCE mechanism applies the specified 8 N external measuring force, and displacement is shown on the digital display.

For an internal measurement, the internal jaws are positioned against the internal surfaces of the feature. In this measuring direction, the Bi-FORCE mechanism provides 4 N force.

The measured value can be held on the display, switched between millimetres and inches, adjusted using the PRESET function, or transferred through the S_connect interface when the optional data cable is used.

WHERE IS IT USED?

The instrument is intended for external, internal and depth dimensional measurements where high-resolution digital indication and controlled measuring force are required.

The catalog specifies the stated accuracy values for the external jaws. Internal-jaw and depth measurements are specified according to ISO 13385-1.

CONFIGURATION & CUSTOMIZATION

Standard configuration:
Stainless-steel caliper with hand-finished measuring surfaces, Bi-FORCE module, SwissMet digital electronics, IP67 protection and S_connect data output.

Available option — external ceramic-tipped jaws:
The caliper can be supplied in a modification with external ceramic-tipped jaws. The catalog identifies these contacts as non-magnetic, non-conductive and wear-resistant.

Optional data interface:
SwissMet data cable for connection through the S_connect output.

*Accuracy values of ±5 / ±8 / ±10 μm apply to the external jaws for the 150 / 200 / 300 mm versions respectively. Internal-jaw and depth measurements are according to ISO 13385-1.

All MICROTECH calipers has hand finished measuring jaws and pass metrological control in ISO 17025 lilac accredited laboratory with no extra cost calibration certificate,
