The MICRON DataMet E-FORCE caliper external knife-edge jaws is a computerized precision caliper for external and internal dimensional measurement over ranges up to 600 mm. Its long jaws and external knife-edge measuring geometry provide access to features that are difficult to reach with conventional flat caliper jaws, while the 1–20 N E-FORCE system allows the measuring force to be selected, displayed and controlled. A 0.0005 mm reading system, 2.0″ color touchscreen and integrated DataMet functions support high-resolution inspection and measurement-data handling.

Description
PRODUCTS
This caliper combines a SWISS-made MICRON reading system, computerized MICS electronics and special long jaws for measurements where both extended reach and fine contact geometry are required.
Three measuring ranges are available:
- 0–300 mm / 0–12″ — ±12 μm accuracy
- 0–500 mm / 0–20″ — ±15 μm accuracy
- 0–600 mm / 0–24″ — ±18 μm accuracy
The electronic measuring system provides 0.0005 mm resolution, with selectable indication of 0.0005 / 0.001 / 0.01 / 0.1 mm.
The long jaws support external measurement and internal measurement above 10 mm. The upper jaws incorporate measuring tips, while the external knife-edge jaw geometry provides a narrow contact profile for reaching external dimensions where broad conventional jaws cannot be positioned correctly.
The integrated E-FORCE control module provides selectable measuring force from 1 to 20 N, force indication, color force-status indication and AUTO-FORCE mode. This allows the applied contact force to be controlled instead of depending only on the operator’s hand pressure.
The computerized unit is housed in a CNC-machined solid aluminium housing, uses a 2.0″ color touchscreen and is protected to IP54. A calibration certificate is included.
DATAMET FUNCTIONS

Measurement values stored in the internal memory can also be transferred for further processing. The delivery set includes access to free versions of the MDS app and a USB data/charging cable.
WHERE IS IT USED AND WHAT TASKS DOES IT SOLVE?
This version is intended for dimensional measurements where a standard short, broad-jaw caliper cannot reach the required measuring surfaces or where controlled contact force is important.
- Large components → external dimensions at recessed locations → limited access for standard jaws → long knife-edge jaws reach the required measuring surfaces while maintaining a narrow contact area.
- Stepped parts → width or outside dimension beside a shoulder → broad jaws can interfere with adjacent geometry → knife-edge contacts can be positioned closer to the required measuring line.
- Components with narrow external features → local outside dimension → insufficient clearance for conventional measuring faces → thin knife-edge geometry provides more localized access.
- Large parts up to 600 mm → internal dimensions above 10 mm → measurement point is located deeper inside the component → extended jaws provide the necessary reach.
- Force-sensitive dimensional checks → external or internal size → uncontrolled hand pressure can change the contact condition → selectable 1–20 N E-FORCE provides visible and repeatable force control.
- Repeated inspection → multiple measurement results and tolerance decisions → manual recording and evaluation increase handling work → GO/NOGO indication, memory, statistics and wireless/USB transfer keep measurement and data processing within one system.
WHAT PROBLEM DOES IT SOLVE?
Conventional calipers are limited when the required measuring surfaces are positioned behind shoulders, inside deeper geometry or in locations where broad measuring faces cannot make correct contact.
The combination of long jaws and external knife-edge contacts provides better physical access to these features. The 1–20 N E-FORCE system addresses a second measurement problem: variation in manually applied force. The selected force is displayed and monitored by the instrument, allowing the operator to control the contact condition during measurement.
For measurements requiring finer discrimination than a conventional 0.01 mm digital caliper, the 0.0005 mm reading system provides substantially finer indication, while tolerance, statistics and memory functions reduce the need to evaluate and record repeated measurements separately.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The required measuring surfaces are positioned between the appropriate jaws. The operator moves the caliper slider until the knife-edge or internal measuring contacts reach the measurement points.
The E-FORCE module monitors the applied measuring force. The operator can select a force between 1 and 20 N, follow its indication on the display and use the color status or AUTO-FORCE mode to establish the required contact condition.
Displacement is measured by the MICRON reading system and shown on the 2.0″ touchscreen. The result can then be evaluated with GO/NOGO, MAX/MIN, formula or other applicable DataMet functions, stored in the internal memory, organized into folders and transferred wirelessly or through USB HID.
CONFIGURATIONS
Standard basic versions:
- 141088321A — 0–300 mm / 0–12″, ±12 μm accuracy
- 141088521A — 0–500 mm / 0–20″, ±15 μm accuracy
- 141088621A — 0–600 mm / 0–24″, ±18 μm accuracy
All three versions use 0.0005 mm resolution, 1–20 N E-FORCE control, computerized DataMet functions, wireless data transfer and USB HID connectivity.
The range should be selected according to the maximum component dimension and the reach required for the measuring point.
